During the game yesterday, they said Mickey was his favorite player.<BR>Mickey asked him why he didn’t use him in the song <BR>Simon said something about the rhyme.<BR><BR>

DiMaggio's name had more syllables, making it work as far as singing that one line..

I think he was being nice. DiMaggio was an icon for that generation he is looking back to. Mick is more contemporary to me.<BR>The words and voice are strikingly simple, I hear NYC in his voice. <BR> Simon alone in Centerfield where they both stood, At Bat 5, on the scoreboard, looking toward home plate and singing to this crowd was a nice moment.
